INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR JLEAngbandTk If you've never heard of AngbandTk, it's a version of Angband with a user-friendly interface and souped-up graphics and sound. It was built by Tim Baker using the Tcl scripting language. You can download the original from http://www.thangorodrim.net/download.html#win32 JLETk is so called because it's vanilla AngbandTk plus a patched version of the "edit" files by Jonathan Ellis, featuring more monsters, more items a new player race and a change in monster depths to make diving smoother. It's considered so good that it was incorporated wholesale into Angband 3.0.1, for which no Tk release exists. Note that installing JLETk won't affect any of the other Tk variants, even though it requires you to paste over some of the common files with new versions. Characters from Vanilla AngbandTk should port straight over to the JLE version without any trouble. 1) Unzip the contents of the JLEAngbandTk-292r2.zip file into the "variant" directory of OmnibandTk-1.4 2) Go into your "variant" directory and you should see three new folders, called JLEAngbandTk-292r2, common and birth. There should also be a new file called "dg_monster732.gif". 3) Cut/Copy the "dg_monster732.gif" file and paste it over the existing dg_monster732.gif file which you'll find in \OmnibandTk-1.4\tk\image\dg\ 4) Cut/Copy the the "birth" and "common" folders and paste them over the existing "birth" and "common" folders in OmnibandTk-1.4\tk\msgs\ Make sure you paste the folders OVER the existing folders and not INTO them. Check to see if there's another folder of the same name inside after your paste: if so you might be better off just pasting the files individually instead of the folders. 5) Start Angband as normal and select JLEAngband from the list 6) There is no setup screen for JLETk, as there is for most Tk variants. The DG tileset is selected by default for you. This is becuase trying to play with any other tileset (except ASCII) will result in a fatal error. I may try and correct this in the future but for the time being, you have been warned! NOTES The JLE Patch is as close as Tk players are going to get to Angband 3.0.1 for the time being. It features almost all the changes to monsters and items from that release, but none of the changes to the classes. Where possible I've tried to use icons used in other bandTk's for those monsters imported into JLE from other bands. I've not checked this exhaustively, so please let me know if you find any mistakes in this reagrd. In most cases I've not changed the original icon settings for Vanilla AngbandTk, so the original monsters still look the same, even though some of them have different names. However I HAVE swapped the Great Wyrms around a bit, so when you encounter one, make sure you know which type it is. I did this because the "natural" great Wyrm graphics for green and gold Wyrms were used for the Wyrms of Law and Balance. They now have new graphics and the other Great Wyrms have icons appropriate to them. I also created a new icon for the Great Wyrm of many colours which is in keeping with the look of all the other Great Wyrms. Big thanks go out to David Gervais for creating his tiles in the first place: nearly all the icons I made were done by hacking and colourizing bits of his original icons.
